A terminal server install of AQ can be accomplished using one of the two methods listed below. The initial installation of AQ should be performed under the terminal server’s admin user account.
AQ stores its data in two default locations when installed.
App & User Configs - C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\AutoQuotes\AQ8
Application Data - C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\AutoQuotes\AQ
Option 1
After the initial installation has occurred under the admin account, & while still logged in under the admin account, do the following.
Copy both the \\Local\ ..\AQ8 & \\Roaming\ ..\AQ directories from the admin account to their corresponding locations under each of the user’s accounts.
Copy From: C:\Users\<admin>\AppData\Local\AutoQuotes\AQ8
Copy To: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\AutoQuotes\AQ8
Copy From: C:\Users\<admin>\AppData\Roaming\AutoQuotes\AQ
Copy To: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\AutoQuotes\AQ
Next, create an application shortcut from the AQ8.exe executable within the user’s \\Roaming\ ..\AQ directory and place it on the user’s desktop or other preferred location.
Users can launch the application by clicking the shortcut you created on their desktop or other preferred location.
Notes: This setup provides each user with their own independent installation. This means both the application & user configuration files as well as the applications data files are installed under the user’s profile.
Option 2
After the initial install has occurred under the admin account, & while still logged in under the admin account, do the following.
Copy the \\Local\ ..\AQ8 directory from the admin’s account to its corresponding location under each of the user’s accounts.
Copy From: C:\Users\<admin>\AppData\Local\AutoQuotes\AQ8
Copy To: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\AutoQuotes\AQ8
Next, create an application shortcut from the AQ8.exe executable within the admin’s \\Roaming\ ..\AQ directory and place it on each of the user’s desktops or other preferred location.
Users can launch the application by clicking the shortcut you created on their desktop or other preferred location.
Notes: This setup provides each user with their own application & user configuration files only. This means that each user’s settings & preferences are independent of one another, however the application files themselves are shared across all users on the server from the admin’s \\Roaming\ ..\AQ directory.
Because the users are accessing the application data under the admin’s \\Roaming\ ..\AQ directory there are two additional items that need to be considered.
Non-admin users will need to be given full permission to the admin’s \\Roaming\ ..\AQ directory. This will allow any user on the server to apply application updates when launching the application.
If you do not wish to give users elevated privileges to the admin’s \\Roaming\ ..\AQ directory then the admin will need to launch AQ under their profile any time a new application update is released. Until the update is applied users will be unable to login to AQ.
